What is changing in the DTZ?

Until now

For B1, it was enough to have B1 in speaking and B1 in one of the parts listening/reading or writing. The other part did not count for this – so a weak letter could be balanced by good listening/reading.

From 1 Nov 2026

For B1 you will also need at least A2 in the remaining part. So you can no longer skip writing: a good letter now counts more than before.

Instant feedback, around the clock

Your feedback comes in seconds – from our AI, without waiting for appointments. You decide which texts you check and what you do with the tips.

German test for immigrants (DTZ)

How the DTZ writing part works

In the writing part you write a short letter or email about an everyday situation – for example to your landlord, the daycare centre or a public office.

Everyday writing tasks like in the DTZ: everyday situation, recipient, four content points to tick off, greeting and closing. You write without time pressure, and the text check shows you right away whether all points are in and what could still be improved in your text.

Choose a writing task

Your test centre can tell you the exact rules for your exam.

In 3 steps

How it works

  1. Step 1: Choose a writing task

3 everyday situations for free – e.g. a letter to your landlord, cancelling an appointment or a message to the daycare centre. With Almanio Pro: all 30 and your own texts.

  2. Step 2: Write at your own pace

No time limit. A word counter and content points to tick off help you while writing.

  3. Step 3: Read your feedback right away

Corrections sentence by sentence with explanations, hints on your text and an improved version – explanations in your language.

What feedback looks like

Understand why – not just what.

You see your sentence, the improved version and a short explanation of what was wrong and why. Explanations are available in German, English, Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian, Persian or Russian.

  • Hints on fit to the task, clarity, sentence structure, vocabulary
  • Corrections sentence by sentence with explanations
  • An improved version of your text
Example: this is what a correction looks likeExample

Your sentence: Ich schreibe Ihnen, weil die Heizung funktioniert nicht.

Improved: Ich schreibe Ihnen, weil die Heizung nicht funktioniert.

In a clause with “weil” (because), the verb goes to the end.

We wrote this example ourselves. In a real result our AI writes the explanations – they may look different.

In the result you can change the language of the explanations at any time – our AI then translates them in a few seconds. Try the selection here in the example:

Frequently asked questions

What does Almanio do?

Almanio checks German texts you wrote yourself in seconds – especially letters and emails about everyday situations, like the ones in the writing part of the Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer (DTZ). For free, you can use 3 selected DTZ-style writing tasks; with Almanio Pro, all 30 plus any text of your own. Our AI marks mistakes, shows an improved version and briefly explains every mistake – in German or, if you like, in one of six other languages.

Who is Almanio for?

Mainly for everyone who writes letters and emails about everyday situations – for example with the writing part of the German test for immigrants (DTZ) – and for everyone who wants to write German more confidently in daily life. You choose the writing tasks yourself – in any order, just as it fits your life.

How is the feedback created?

In seconds, by our AI: we look at fit to the task, clarity, sentence structure and vocabulary and tell you briefly how each point is going (good, okay or can be improved) – with hints. You also get corrections sentence by sentence, an improved version and tips for exactly this text. Instead of points or grades you get hints that are easy to understand.

What does “Estimated level: likely A2” mean?

It is a rough AI estimate of which level of the Common European Framework of Reference this one text roughly matches: “likely A1”, “likely A2”, “likely B1” or “likely B2 or higher”. We don’t estimate above B2 – a short everyday letter is simply too short for that. The estimate gives you a direction for this text. It is not a test, not a forecast of an exam result and not proof of your level.

Does a person read my texts?

No – that’s why it is so fast. At Almanio there are no teachers and no personal support on content: our AI creates your feedback fully automatically in seconds. Like any AI, it can sometimes be wrong. For technical questions and anything about billing, our support is happy to help.

What changes in the German test for immigrants from 1 November 2026?

On 1 November 2026, an amendment to the Integration Course Test Regulation comes into force (BGBl. 2026 I No. 306). Until now: you reached B1 if you got B1 in speaking and in at least one of the parts listening/reading or writing – the other part did not count for this, so writing could also be weak. New: you also need at least A2 in the remaining part. So if you want B1, you need at least A2 in writing – or B1 in writing if listening/reading is weaker. Your test centre can tell you exactly which rules apply to your exam. Almanio helps you improve your letters – but nobody can promise you an exam result, not even us.

Does Almanio belong to a test centre or a public authority?

No. Almanio is independent. Our feedback is just for you: you see what is already good in your text and what could still be improved. It is not an exam assessment.

How much does Almanio cost?

Free: 1 text check per day with 3 selected writing tasks, no sign-up. With Almanio Pro you get all 30 writing tasks and your own texts – up to 50 checks per day: 30-day pass for €9.99 or 90-day pass for €19.98. You pay once: no subscription, no automatic renewal, access ends automatically. Almanio Pro is coming soon.

Are my texts saved?

For the text check we send your text to our AI service provider. Under “My texts” you see your earlier texts and results – they are saved only in your browser, and you can delete them there at any time. More in our privacy policy (in German).
